The annual month-long competitive event brings together law students in a show of camaraderie and friendship

PASAY CITY – Swapping their highlighters for headbands and codals for court shoes, the student-athletes of the Philippine Law School (PLS) officially kicked off their campaign in Conflict of Laws 2026. The annual inter-law sports tournament, which brings together the brightest (and most competitive) legal minds from across the country, opened this week with a display of grit, teamwork, and school spirit.

Representing the "Purple and Gold" of Pasay, the PLS delegation arrived in full force, ready to prove that their skills extend far beyond the courtroom. This year’s meet features a grueling schedule of basketball, volleyball, badminton, and even the high-stakes "Quiz Bee"—a different kind of mental marathon.

Opening Salvo: Grit in the Hardcourt

The PLS Men’s Basketball Team set the tone early in the tournament, facing off against formidable teams in a high-octane opener. The squad showed remarkable chemistry, executing plays with the precision of a well-cited legal brief.

"We spend all day in the library, so being out here on the court is our release," said one PLS player. "Conflict of Laws is about more than winning; it’s about showing the legal community that PLS lawyers are well-rounded, resilient, and ready for any challenge."

Beyond the Scoreboard: Forging Alliances

While the "Conflict" in the title suggests a rivalry, the event serves as a vital networking hub for future members of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP). Between sets and quarters, PLS students were seen mingling with peers from other institutions, building the professional relationships that will define their careers.

"It’s great to see the camaraderie," noted a member of the PLS Student Council. "Today we’re opponents on the volleyball court, but in a few years, we’ll be colleagues in the hall of justice. This event builds that mutual respect early on."

What’s Next for PLS?

The tournament continues through the weekend, with PLS eyeing podium finishes in basketball and debate. The PLS community is encouraged to head to the venues to cheer on our athletes.
